CamGirls Progess Explained!

I get a lot of people asking me "How is CamGirls coming?" and, worse, "Aren't you done yet?!"

The short answer is: No. We're not done yet.

Well, how much further do you have to go?

The answer to that question is fairly complex as we're tackling the film in segments. To help with that, I decided to put together this visual graph that tracks our progress in a simple way.

The steps to editing each segment of the film, as noted in the key below, are:

Shoot!
This one is fairly obvious. We've got to shoot the material first.

Script Assembly
This is where we take the official interviews and cut together the basis for that segment. This is assembling what the CamGirls actually said into a narrative order. The 'talking-head' interview is the basis and structure for the whole documentary.

Script Refine
This is where we refine the story. Cut out redundancies, clear up vague statements, and clairify what the segment is about.

Add B-Roll
The script is just the formal interview and we edit segments together. Then we start adding B-Roll, which is footage of the CamGirl, their website, their life, their photos, whatever visual evidence supports what they're talking about.

Fine Cut
Once the B-Roll is added we're on a roll for sure. From there we refine the whole feel of the segment, this is the most finished stage before locking the picture, which is the final stage.

Locked Picture
This is the last stage. Once the picture is locked, that segment is final. When all picture is locked, the movie moves into the later stages of post, which are detailed below:

- Color correction
- Graphics & Titles
- Score/Music
- Final Sound Mix

And then we've got a done film!

Whew!

So, below is a visual representation of where we are with the edit of the film.

Each segment represents about 4 minutes of screen time.

And that's the scoop!
